CryoPen · Skin lesion removal
CryoPen removes common, harmless skin lesions with a precise burst of extreme cold. No cutting, no stitches and no anaesthetic. Every treatment is carried out by Claire Kennedy, NMC-registered nurse, at our private clinic in Hebburn.
What it treats
CryoPen is designed for benign (harmless) skin lesions on the face and body. Claire checks every lesion before treating it, and if anything looks unusual she'll refer you to your GP first.
Soft, harmless growths that catch on collars, necklaces and bra straps.
Rough, raised growths caused by a common virus, usually on the hands and fingers.
Warts on the soles of the feet that can feel like standing on a small stone.
Tiny, hard white bumps, often on the cheeks and around the eyes.
Flat brown patches from years of sun exposure, on the face, hands and chest.
Waxy, raised, “stuck-on” spots that become more common with age.
Small, bright red spots made up of tiny clusters of blood vessels.
Small, pearly bumps caused by a common and harmless skin virus.
CryoPen is never used on moles. Any spot that is new, changing, itching or bleeding is referred to your GP before any treatment.
How it works
CryoPen applies a pinpoint of extreme cold to the lesion, working down roughly a millimetre every five seconds. The cold destroys the unwanted cells while the healthy skin around them is left largely untouched.
Because the freeze is so precise, there's no cutting, no stitches and no need for a local anaesthetic. You can get straight back to your day, and showering and swimming are fine.
Assessment
Claire looks closely at each lesion and goes through your medical history, to make sure it is benign and suitable for CryoPen.
Treatment
From a few seconds for a small skin tag to under a minute for a stubborn verruca. Most people feel a brief, sharp sting.
Healing
The area may be red or form a small blister for up to five days, then heals over the following 2–6 weeks.
Review
Most lesions clear after one treatment. Deeper ones, like some warts and verrucas, may need another session about two weeks later.
Prices & suitability
Your consultation confirms what can be treated, and what it will cost, before anything goes ahead.
The final price depends on the number, size and type of lesions.

Questions
Most people describe a brief, sharp sting while the cold is applied, and perhaps some stinging for a few minutes afterwards. The cold itself numbs the area, so no anaesthetic is needed.
Most lesions respond to a single treatment. Deeper lesions, such as some warts and verrucas, can need more than one session, spaced around two weeks apart.
The area may look red, and a small blister can form that lasts up to five days. Over the following 2–6 weeks the skin heals and the lesion clears, depending on its size and where it is.
Very little. You can shower, swim and carry on as normal; just protect the area from rubbing. If a blister bursts, keep it clean and cover it with a plaster. Claire will talk you through aftercare before you leave.
Scarring is uncommon because the freeze is so precise and largely spares the surrounding tissue. The treated skin can turn lighter or darker for a few months. On darker skin tones the lightening can be permanent, which Claire will discuss with you first.
No. Moles are not treated with CryoPen. If you're worried about a mole, or any spot that is new, changing or bleeding, please see your GP.
For most lesions, yes. Some types are more stubborn than others and may need a follow-up session to clear completely.
